"Flexibility and freedom to be myself as a teacher is invaluable," Kyle Kavanaugh said of the working environment at Cedar Creek. "I have always been given a lot of freedom to use my professional knowledge in the classroom and teach the way that is best for my students," he said. Kavanaugh, who holds a B.S. in Biology Education and a M.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Louisiana Tech University, teaches seventh grade science and is state certified in both secondary biology and social studies. Doing what is best for students is Kavanaugh's passion--one that drives both his teaching and his work with Lead 'Em Up, a national leadership and character development organization for athletes. "Coach K," as he is affectionately known by students, won two state basketball championships and state runner-up track honors while teaching and coaching at Simsboro High School. Married 11 years to wife Meghan, Kavanaugh has taught at Cedar Creek for nine years, and the Kavanaughs' daughter Kendall is one of our new Pre-K Cougars. "I love the small-school atmosphere," Kavanaugh said. "Everyone knows everyone. You are connected to the entire campus and are able to build relationships with more than just your particular grade or class. Our school rallies around each another." Kavanaugh said those personal connections are part of the characteristic Creek experience. "Students are well taken care of here," he said. "They aren't just another data point. Cedar Creek Cougars can receive a well-rounded, deep educational experience but also be prepared for life beyond the classroom--for whatever future they want."
